Being a small business owner can be incredibly stressful. In addition to helping run the day-to-day business operations, you often have to take on additional roles to ensure the long term success of your business. In an article on All Business Experts, writer Nellie Akalp shared four ways business owners can keep their cool during the most stressful of times.
1. Don't do more than five major tasks a day.
According to the article, doing more than five large tasks a day can lead to you feeling overwhelmed, "If you use a never-ending to-do list, you will always feel like you are never getting anything accomplished. If you do just five things and try to get them completed by 11 a.m., you will be amazed how much more you will accomplish when you must prioritize tasks."
2. Stop trying to control everything.
This one seems like a no-brainer. Akalp states there are only three things you should focus on as a small business owner:
- Who you are for your customers.
- What you are committed to.
- Delivering on what your customers can count on you for.
3. Write stuff down.
"Just buy a white legal pad, and write down all the things you need to do," Joel Libava, the Franchise King, said in the article. "As soon as you complete each task, draw a line through it. It feels soooo good to physically cross something off!"
4. Take a break.
Perhaps the most important piece of advice, take a break. Taking time off, even just a few hours, can greatly improve your mood and productivity.
